Option 2: Write from the perspective of a Spanish Conquistador. You may be Pizarro or any of the adventure or mercenaries. Describe your first impressions of the Maya people and of the city. Describe emotions on the night prior to the conquering.
Once, after long exhausted journey, we arrived a city that was located on a flat land that we never seen before. We were on the trip to take over more places, and we wanted to expand our colony. We quickly found out that it was a really traditional city; there were huts all over it, people lived in thatched roofed houses. People farm a lot. They grew a lot of maize for food, and would plant their crops by poking and digging sticks into the ground, planting the seeds into the holes. Also, I saw them raised dogs, turkeys and ducks in their house, and that probably were for food. The men in the city hunted deer, rabbits, boar, and armadillos in the woods, and fished in the wild. The women would cook and weave. They used the feathers from animals for clothes, and wove beautiful fabrics, and which were used to honor their gods, their leaders, and their daily life. The city was connected with extremely well built roads that run for miles through the jungle and swamps. There were some enormous spectacular buildings such as pyramids and temples there, and that makes me started to admire their intelligence of building architecture. There were beautiful decoration on it, and I saw them utilize the timber form jungle and stone from nature for materials.
We were walking around the city, and were thinking of this place would be a great place to invade. People here have traditional life, and seems like they did not have any guns, and other weapons made out of steel like us. Afterwards, we met some of the citizens. Our arriving caused a little turmoil; some people started to get anxious, and were totally shocked. They were scared, but after a while, they gradually put down their vigilance, started to communicate with us. Since we hardly can understand each other, they do not know we were going to take over their places. Looking at their innocent farmers working hard under the hot sun on the land and labors sweating a lot because of carry those heavy stones in order to build those glorious temples, thinking of the time tomorrow they will all disappear, and their hard word now is all going to wasted. We were still waiting for the right timing, waiting for the night came. Finally, the night got darker. We prepared our advance weapons, stood by our position. Suddenly, we heard our leader yelled, “ Fire! “
As George Stuart, the Historian suggests, "Imagina pulling out one of the most important Primary Sources in the prehistory od the New World." Write a 250-word response, teeling what you would do if you came across such a source. How would you interptret it? What kind of responsibility would you feel?
If I am a historian that found out such significant sources and studying really hard about it in order to found out the key, secrets and history behind it, then I will do my best, and spend my whole life on it. Since history such things are so important for the new world, I have the responsibility to figure out the culture. Also, there must be a lot of pressure, especially when that sources have no written language, or even they have language that we could not understand in the modern time, it is a lot of hard work to interpreting how they live in the past. Another reason that this is such a pressure work is because we have to find something out of (almost) nothing. Although there are evident and symbols, but for us that live in the present time, it is always not enough. No one on earth knew what was going to in the past, and why they built their temples or buildings that way, and what they did to make a living. We only can use our imagination and the technology to interpret and guess that they probably live that way. Out super developed technology will guide us to the truth of it. We are just like the agency from that culture/ sources to our modern time, finding out the real world in long time ago, and trying to restructure the life and present to the people in the present time that tare curious about it.
The Alternate Ending for the Book (The Boy With the Striped Pajamas)
Bruno was sitting beside the fence with Shmuel sitting on the other side of the fence. As usual, they were chatting there. Since they both knew that Bruno’s moving away, they were planning about to let their last memory together the best memory instead of talking about the things they usually talked. They decide to let Shmuel come outside of the fence and had an adventure with Bruno’s out in the woods. The next day, Bruno brought his clothes to Shmuel, and they both helped Shmuel to get out of the fence. It was a sunny day, and they were both excited about the adventure. They ran around in the woods and chasing each other, and even sat beside the river, watching the fish swimming in the river. They felt like they were as free as those fishes in the river, can do what they want and no body will care. They also lied on the field and look through the sky, enjoying their best day ever with their best friends in the entire life. But some soldiers appeared in the woods abruptly. They were too enjoying chatting with each other and did not even notice the soldiers’ arrival. These soldiers quickly found out Shmuel since they had seen him before in the concentration camp, and they caught them. Bruno’s had been sent home to his father, and he got a significant punishment. Father banned him going outside of the house, and should only study in his own room for weeks. On the other hand, Shmuel’s more miserable than him of course. Shmuel had been shot as the punishment of escaping out of the camp and play with the Germanys. It was sad. After few weeks, Bruno had found out that father’s soldier had killed his best friends. He cried and cried, yelling loudly in the house for days. He couldn’t understand what was wrong of enjoying his life with his best friend was not right, and all he thought of is that he had lost his best friends and the support in life. There’s no reason for him to live in Out-With anymore, since his big support had disappeared forever. He became so quiet and seldom talked to father. He wanted to hate his father but that’s father’s job, and he understood. Mother and Father also discovered that Bruno’s had changed a lot. He became very ill and even refuses to eat. He closed himself in his own room and sat on the bed, steering outside the window, trying the recollect all the memories he had with Shmuel. Good old days never came back. And great times always had its end. He still missed his old friend very much after years and couldn’t forget the time with Shmuel.
A letter to Bruno (From Grandmother)
Dear Bruno,
Life is not always what you think, you are still young and world are too complicate to you. You were pretty curious about what you have seen outside the window, those people with gray striped, working hard and standing under the sun, always obeying what the soldiers told them to do. Don’t you think it is weird? You live in a big house with maid helping with almost every house works. You live with your family happily. You can stay in the house and play with your toy instead of standing under the big hot sun. Did you ever ask yourself why your life is so different from the people outside the window? Well, my lovely grandson. I missed you a lot, too. I left because I was pretty mad at what had happened during that ridiculous dinner. Celebrating your father’s new position, and seeing your mother or even grandfather clapping hand and seeing how good-looking your father had. All they care is about the position in life; all they care is about how handsome they look. But actually, it is also time for you to grow up. You know your father is a person that people respect a lot, that is because he is also being part of the group that rule the people that are outside your window. Contrast to you, I think you may know how the people are suffering down over there. Your father is one part of the reason that letting people there having a totally life compare to you. For that, I think you may know a little more why I was mad and stormed out of the house that time. I am really sorry if that scared you, and it should be a happy Christmas dinner. I am sorry that I ruin it. But, to let you know, I still love you all.

Empathy
In my opinion, I think that empathy is to know other's feeling, able to think what others have experience and to emotionally put yourself in the place of another. When we are able to empathy to others, then we may start to change our action and to help them. Once when we empathy someone, means that you think they are ‘different’ from us, think they have worse situation than us and wanted to help them no matter if we are able or not. There are really a lot of situations when we will empathy other. To have empathy is a good thing, if everyone all have strong empathy, then it probably helps our society a lot. The situation that we will empathy other is when we are born in adequate family and we are rich in no matter food or clothes wear, and seeing the African people are starving and living on the street, in cold weather and under the hot sun. In that case, we will empathy them and wanted to help them, also give out what we have that is unnecessary and they need. That was pretty good because that not only help them and also letting us make the right decision and make us look wise. So, basically empathy is mostly positive. If most of the people have empathy and our world will become better. The poor and the people that needs help will no longer starving and struggle in the bad situation, and the people that are rich can also give out what they have, which makes all this better.
Compare what you know of Bruno’s life to that of a child living in the Warsaw Ghetto
For Bruno, since his father is a high classes person in their society that most of the other people should respect him, and including the soldiers, so Bruno is very lucky compare to the child or other people in the Ghetto that they do not have worry about his living. People in the Ghetto have to wear uniform which looks like the gray stripes pajamas and have to be really polite to the soldiers. "As they left they stood in a row together like toy soldiers and their arms shot out in the same way that Father had taught Bruno to salute....."(43)and "Some stood perfectly still in groups, their hands by their sides, trying to keep their heads up, as a soldier marched in front of them."(36)
In those sentences, we can see that how those people have been taught to be, and how they were organize, they have to worked under the hot sun until the soldier told them to stop and also very worry about whether they are going to die or not. Compare their life to other, Bruno's family are rich and there are even housemaids in their house helping them. The train he and his family was taking is "a very comfortable train with very few people on it and plenty of empty seats and rest air when the windows were pulled down."(41) But contrary to the people in Ghetto, the train they took was really crowd. I think he should treasure what he have but not keep going to be disappointed about their new house, because what he has has been far more than the others.
Warsaw Ghetto Response
I would take his job, if I am him, if I do not do this job, I may lose my life. I rather do this job to help others, although my job is not that easy, in charging all those things is making Jewish people suffering, and serving the meager supply to them is what the most difficult things. If I wanted to do my job, means that I wanted to do something good for people but not letting them being poorer and not healthier. But this job is to serve them meager resources and let the people suffering. I will struggle in the choices, if I do not do this job, I will lose my life. So I rather do the job than die. I will accept the leadership role. If i don't do this job, someone else that do this job may serve them less resources, so there is also risk if I do not do this job.
Discussion Question 1(Nazism and the Holocaust)
I think during the rainy day, if I have bring the umbrella and others don't, although I will feel lucky that i did remember to bring it, but seeing others being wet and suffering in the rainy does not feel that good. But no choice, it is impossible for me to give the umbrella to others and let myself suffering. I may have compassion, and feel sorry for them. For someone that have different background with us, if we have more than others, we can help them. For instance, if we have the umbrella, then maybe we can share or I can walk many times to pick them up, or if I have the last hotdogs and the people that stand behind me do not have it, maybe we can cut half for them or even give them the whole thing if we are not that starving. Do not avoid of giving out the things you have, hotdog and others things it's just object, not something that you give out and then may cause serious consequences. Sometimes we can also
My reaction to the Treaty of Versailles as a German.
As a German, although we are a defeated nation to the World War I, the treaty that the other countries have signed is still too strict to us. We have millions of solders were killed, our country can say its devastated. The whole nation is covered by a sadness atmosphere. Now, the treaty makes us more miserable. Our land is going to invade by the other countries and our military have been banned in many ways by the international. During this period of time can be the most tragedy things that can ever happened to us. And also the Spanish flu, that makes our situation more bitterness. We are not pleased about the treaty that the international have signed to us. Some are really mad but most felt really ignominious. We used to have lots of right, used to be the country that invade others, and used to ban other by what we want. But now, seems like international have become a defender, we have got the revenge. We felt ridiculous that the world have change in only these short time, our country have become poor since we have to pay lots of money for the fine in the war, our economic is getting weaker, no one wants to see their own country become that needy. Although our government did not want to sign the treaty at first but later on because of the force, we signed unfortunately. Still many of us did lots of things to protest to show that we really do not want to admit that. But still, we held the responsible for all those consequences.

Also I am interest about their population, their religion and what languages they speak. And if i could know how their national flag look like that would be interesting. In this class, I wish I could l learn more about the world and not only the europe.
